Kuinka hyvin tuommoinen saarninen flatbow-malli [1] skaalautuu pitempiin jousiin? Onko jotain kikkoja, joita pitäisi ottaa huomioon tai joista olisi mahdollisesti hyötyä? Mittailin vetoni pituudeksi 33", jolloin yhden lähteen mukaan jousen pituudeksi tulisi melkein 83" (2.5 kertaa vedon pituus). Ja mikähän tuolle flatbowlle olisi oikeaoppinen suomennos?
Tällä viikolla olisi tarkoitus tehdä pyhiinvaellus lautatarhalle. :)

Lattajousi. Yleensä käytetään kerrointa 2.3 tai 2.35.
Tota pidempi on tietenkin kestävämpi, mutta ei yhtä tehokas.
33" on 83.8 eli aika pitkä veto sulla, vedätkö ylipitkän vedon vai oletko yli 2m? |

Pari milliä jää kahdesta metristä vajaaksi. Vedon mittasin rullamitalla kämmenen pohjasta poskeen. Tuolla 2.35 kertoimella jousen pituus menisi aika lähelle omaa pituutta.
Tehoilla ei vielä tässä vaiheessa ole paljoakaan merkitystä. Parannellaan niitä sitten, kun on edes yksi toimiva jousi kädessä. |

Rullamitalla mitattu veto on käytännöllisesti katsoen aina reilusti pidempi kuin ampujan oikea vetopituus. Minun vetopituuteni rullamitalla suupieleen on 29 - 30" ja olen parikymmentä senttiä vierasta lyhyempi. Todellinen vaistoammuntavetoni on nykyisin 27 tuumaa. Moni mittaiseni ampuu luontevimmin tätäkin lyhyemmällä vedolla - vakaa, joustava asento, jossa jousen vetovastus on kontrollissa ja nuoli tulee tähtäävän silmän alle verottaa kummasti tuumia.
Ainoa keino selvittää todellinen vetopituutensa on pyytää jotakuta katselemaan vierestä, kun ampuu omalla tyylillään tauluun miettimättä vetonsa pituutta. Aika usein näillä kolmenkymmenen tuuman miehillä on nuolivarresta pari-kolme tuumaa käyttämättä kun laaki lähtee, eikä siinä mitään. Parimetrinen, apinankätinen Howard Hillkin ampui 28" vedolla ja piti tätä pidempää vetoa täysin turhana. |

| taidat olla mitannu ton vetopituuden jousikäsi sivulle ojennettuna ja aivan suorana. kyllähän mullakin on 33 tuumaa pituutta tolla tyylillä mitattuna. mutta laitas sitten jousi käteen ja käy kiskomaan sitä ni ei varmasti vetopituus ole 33 ellei korvan taakse sitä vedä. |

Tuossa oli Tim Bakerin pitkän ja leveän flattarin mallia. Sopii varmaankin useammalle puulajille.

The bow:
Pecan, board, heartwood, some sapwood showing on one edge.
Rectangular section.
11% moisture content.
80" tip to tip, 79.25" n/n.
160-grain linen string.
500-grain arrow.
Braced 5" from the back.
1-11/16 at the fades. 1-1/4" midlimb. Straightline taper to 1/4" nocks. Tie-on back nocks.
The center one foot apparently stiff. The next six inches on each side bending so slightly it takes absolutely no set. Then normal elliptical tiller on outward. The far-understrained center two feet of the bow, thought taking no set whatever, account for enough tip movement to reduce strain enough on the rest of the limbs to yield very low set there.
The dawn side view shape appears whip tillered, but only because of what is essentially an 18" non-working grip. If that 18" were removed, the remaining limbs splice together, it would appear to be a normal-length, normal-tiller bow.
The bow's long length accounts for its no-stack draw, gaining only about 2lb of weight per inch at full draw.
Before shooting the bow showed 3/4" of set. After testing, just-unbraced set was 1". Two hours later = 7/8", all this indicating an extremely understrained bow.
This bow was a bit slower per pound than it's same-board sister bow that went to the first MoJam test. It got left behind, and has been leaning upright against a wall,all these years. It seemed happy to be shooting today. I'll post a photo of the bow tomorrow is there is interest. |
