Herttoniemen puukeskuksessa Hki:ssä on amerikkalaista punajalavaa. Onko kenelläkään tietoa millaista se olisi jousipuuna?

Eiköhän tuo ole samaa amerikanjalavaa mitä Viilukeskus Turussa kauppaa. Pehmeämpää kuin eurojalavat (ja moni amerikkalainen), mutta nättiä kuin mikä ja ihan toimiva jousipuu. Minä olen tästä tehnyt yhden "oikean" jousen kauan sitten sekä ison nipun <30# lastenjousia. Haverisen Mikon 110-paunainen lonkkari on samaa matskua, eikä ole ainakaan vielä mennyt poikki. Bottom line: kevyt, tasapainoinen, kaunis ja helppotyöstöinen jousipuu.

Valkojalava, Amerikan jalava(??) <Ulmus americana> (American elm) on ilmeisesti eri puu, kuin punajalava.

Tietenkään ikinä ei voi olla varma mitä tuotenimellä "Amerikan jalava" myydään. Voi olla joko <Ulmus Americana> (ja mahdollisesti 5 muuta Amerikasta tuotua jalavaa). Ilmeisesti kuitenkaan (American elm) ei ole Amerikan jalava (??).

Tätä myydään nimellä punajalava. Väri onkin huomattavasti tummempi kuin kotimaisen. Suomalaista jalavaa luonnehtisin lähinnä kerman väriseksi, tämä taas muistuttaa enempi maitokahvia.

Samalta näyttää. Kosteusprosentti oli muuten noin 9, käyttövalmista kamaa.

Tein kerran yli 70 tuumaa pitkän jousen punajalavasta kuvan mukaisesti poikittaisella rakenteella.
